Dr. Weber has special qualifications and abilities that set his work and results apart. He has published and lectured numerous times regarding eye plastic surgery. Dr. Weber developed three novel procedures, which were published in separate issues of the prestigious journal: Ophthalmic Surgery. Dr. Weber is the only dermatologic surgeon to have contributed to this prestigious journal and to have lectured to the most respected American Society of Ophthalmic Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery (Oculoplastic Surgeons).
Dr. Weber trained in Mohs and Dermatologic Surgery at the Ivy League's most prestigious training program at the University of Pennsylvania. While at the University of Pennsylvania, he studied under the world-renowned Oculoplastic Surgeon, Dr. Alan Wulc. At that time, Drs. Weber and Wulc performed what was thought to be the world's first liposuction fat transfer into the eye-socket.
Ophthalmic Plastic (Oculoplastic or eye plastic) Surgeons are Ophthalmologists (eye doctors) specially trained in cosmetic and repair surgery of the eye and surrounding tissues. Oculoplastic Surgeons (not "general" plastic surgeons) are especially known for complex eye plastic surgery and cosmetic surgery procedures. Oculoplastic Surgeons train for years in solely in eye surgery in their formal training and fellowships. Unfortunately, the public is largely unaware of the difference in training between (general) "Plastic Surgeons" and Oculoplastic Surgeons. "General" plastic surgeons customarily train for 5 years in general (bowel, etc) surgery, then they usually do ONLY 2 years of plastic surgery training (reconstructive surgery, cleft lips, cosmetic surgery, i.e. breasts, necks, tummy-tucks, etc). The total training time during the 2-year period that "general" plastic surgeons in training may spend is divided among different procedures. Often in residency training, the 2nd year (senior) resident will train the 1st year (junior) resident. Dr. Weber was extremely fortunate to have been able to train under one of the most renowned eye-plastic (Oculoplastic) surgeons in the world, Dr. Alan Wulc, a former Chief, of the Scheie Eye Institute of the University of Pennsylvania. It was the opportunity of a lifetime.
Dr. Weber is a Dermatologic Surgeon. Dermatologic Surgery has been officially recognized by the ACGME (Accreditation Committee for Graduate Medical Education) now as Procedural Dermatology. Dr. Weber has developed new instrumentation for eye plastic surgery as well as other instruments approved by the US FDA (Food and Drug Administration). These instruments have been manufactured by such well-known names as Colorado Biomedical, KMI, and Tiemann.
